Registered Nurse (Central Austin)

THA's Kind Clinic Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for delivering high-quality patient care during clinic operating hours. This position is based at Kind Clinic Central Austin and reports to the Clinic Administrator, with clinical oversight provided by the Nurse Manager. To support operational and patient care needs, nurses may be cross-trained and periodically asked to provide coverage at other Austin-area Kind Clinic locations.

Core Functions:

  • Assist with the evaluation and care of patients seen at Kind Clinic, including, but not limited to: preparing patients for examination, taking vital signs, verifying patient information by interviewing patient and recording medical history.
  • Provide direct nursing care to patients, including the provision of lab services, and the distribution of medications and treatments according to accepted standards of care.
  • Conduct patient follow-up visits and physical examinations according to accepted standards of care and within the definitions of the Texas Nursing Practice Act.
  • Teach and counsel patients concerning health assessment and care including prevention of disease, disability, hygiene, and health maintenance in a safe, affirming, and culturally appropriate manner.
  • Provide clinical training to new Medical Assistant staff and relevant feedback to the Clinic Administrator regarding training progress.
  • Adequately reviews and prepares charts prior to daily visits.
  • Serve as a mentor to clinic support staff.
  • Act as a liaison and collaborate with Patient Support Center RN team as needed.
  • Follow organization’s clinical SDOs, policies and procedures when interpreting lab results, sending medication refills or scheduling treatments.
  • Follow Texas DSHS notifiable condition verbal reporting requirements related to in-clinic diagnoses of presumptive primary syphilis and acute HIV.
  • Prioritize work tasks and services and completes tasks in a timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate, clear and concise progress notes, problem lists, and medication lists.
  • Communicate appropriately and tactfully with staff, patients, partners, and community.
  • Actively engage in a quality improvement culture within department/organization and participate in identified quality improvement activities.
  • Participate in staff, planning, in-service, and other meetings as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Compensation
Based on the position’s duties and requirements, this role has a starting hourly rate of $34.00. The initial hourly rate will be determined by the selected candidate’s qualifications and relevant experience.

We’re also offering a $2,500 signing bonus for this role as a welcome to our team. Payment of the bonus is contingent upon successful completion of new hire training, completion of a 90-day probationary period, and the employee remaining actively employed and in good standing through the payout date.

Requirements

Education, Licensure, & Certification

  • H.S. Diploma or equivalent work experience required.
  • Current RN licensure in the state of Texas required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required or must be obtained before hire date.

Experience

  • 1+ years’ experience in patient care in an outpatient setting required.
  • Experience with LGBTQIA+ and/or other marginalized communities a strong plus.
  • Microsoft Office Skills with an ability to become familiar with company or position specific programs or software.

Your previous work life and education ideally include:

  • Bilingual English/Spanish.
  • Experience in HIV testing, HIV services, STI testing, and treatment clinic.
  • 1+ years of experience in working with diverse populations, including LGBTQ+ and other marginalized populations.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Must have basic PC skills that include a combination of working in a Windows Operating System and Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Understands the importance of maintaining confidentiality; able to maintain confidentiality under HIPAA standards.
  • Must have the ability to exercise a high degree of diplomacy and tact; excellent customer services and interpersonal communication skills; Cultural sensitivity and demonstrated ability to work with diverse people groups.
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills in English; Additional language abilities desirable.
