THA's Kind Clinic Medical Assistant supports the delivery of high-quality patient care during clinic operating hours and reports to the Clinic Administrator. This position is based at Kind Clinic Central Austin; however, Medical Assistants may be cross-trained and periodically asked to provide coverage at other Austin-area Kind Clinic locations based on operational and patient care needs.
Core Functions
- Effectively room and prepare patients for clinic visits.
- Obtain and document patient medical histories, including allergies, family, social, and surgical history, and other pertinent information in the medical record.
- Obtain and record vital signs.
- Perform phlebotomy and process laboratory specimens as needed during clinic operating hours.
- Dispense medications and administer STI treatments, including injections, in accordance with provider directives and Standing Delegation Orders (SDOs).
- Serve as a liaison between the laboratory, providers, and patients.
- Review provider orders for accuracy and completeness, verify specimen labeling and identification, and follow established protocols for specimen handling.
- Clean, stock, and maintain exam rooms to ensure readiness for patient care.
- Assist clinic staff and the Clinic Administrator with monitoring inventory levels and verifying receipt of supplies in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Promote infection prevention practices and adhere to universal precautions to maintain a safe environment for patients and staff.
- Complete required annual clinical competencies and trainings.
- Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and organizational policies and procedures.
- Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and other organizational activities as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Compensation
Based on the responsibilities and requirements of this position, the starting hourly rate is $20.80. The actual starting rate will be determined based on the selected candidate's qualifications and relevant experience.
Requirements
Education and/or Licensure:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program, Certificate of Registration as a Medical Assistant, or formal medical services training in the United States Armed Forces preferred.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required or must be obtained before hire date.
- Texas Phlebotomy Certification required within 2 days of hire (if not current at time of hire).
Experience:
- 2+ years direct patient care experience. Working knowledge of infection control and universal precautions.
- Familiarity with a CLIA-waived laboratory testing a strong plus.
- Experience with LGBTQIA+ and/or other marginalized communities a strong plus.
- Microsoft Office Skills with an ability to become familiar with company specific programs or software.
Additional Requirements – Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) a plus.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Must have basic PC skills that include a combination of working in a Windows Operating System and Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Understands the importance of maintaining confidentiality; able to maintain confidentiality under HIPAA standards.
- Must have the ability to exercise a high degree of diplomacy and tact; excellent customer services and interpersonal communication skills; Cultural sensitivity and demonstrated ability to work with diverse people groups.
